A day in the park

Sunday, July 30th, 2006

Little Isaac and Owen are changing every day, it’s pretty amazing what a week will do. Now they’re very interested in things going on around them, and all they want to do is stare at your face and make funny expressions back. Even a smile every once in a while. Have a look:

Trouble yes, but aren’t they adorable?

Getting into the swing of things

Thursday, July 20th, 2006

Now we’re at 5 weeks and IT’S CHAOS!!! Baton down the hatches! All hands on deck! Every man for themselves!!! We had no idea what we were getting into. But we’re loving every moment, and those which aren’t so loveable, well, we have hope they’ll grow out of it.

You just never know what to expect with these little guys. One minute they’re as happy as can be, then 10 seconds later you’ll hear a wail reserved for only the most macabre horror movies.

Leslie and I are walking around like zombies from the graveyard next door, constantly in a daze of sleep deprivation. Some nights they’re angels and we can get 6-7 hours of sleep in (split over 3 feedings of course). Then other nights, like last night, one or both of them are determined to keep the party going all night long.

Some things we’ve learned:

- There’s no such thing as a pattern at this age. Every day and night it’s something new.

- They somehow love sleeping in their car seats, so now they serve as bassinet, stroller and bed all in one.

- The swing is our new best friend. We’re getting another one.

- Just as the piercing scream of hunger throws you out of bed at 4am, they also make the most adorable little sounds and smiles that will melt your heart with a blow torch.

- Now they’re HUGE! Probably over 10lbs each! At birth Isaac was the big one. Then Owen went on a rampage of a growth spurt and seemed almost twice as big. Then last week Isaac went on a feeding frenzy and I bet is equal to his brother in weight. Owen still has him beat by sheer girth alone, we call him ‘Tank.’

It’s impossible for us to love these two little angels any more. It’s a type of love that I had no idea I was capable of, and I can see the same in Leslie. Full of hope and joy, I finally understand what it’s all about.

Love from the Paves
